Younis Khan Enters 8000 Run Club, Many Records Broken
Younis Khan became the third Pakistani after Javed Miandad and Inzamam-ul-Haq and 28th batsman overall to score 8000 runs in Test cricket.
The right hand top order batsman from Mardan reached this milestone during his 213-run knock on the second day of the second Test match against Australia at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Friday.
Javed Miandad scored 8832 runs at 52.57 with 23 hundreds and 43 fifties in 189 innings of 124 Test match between 1976 and 1993 while Inzamam-ul-Haq made 8830 runs at 49.60 with 25 hundreds and 46 fifties in 200 innings of 120 Test matches between 1992 and 2007.
Younis Khan, with this double hundred, also became the second Pakistani after Javed Miandad who scored six double hundreds and 13th batsman overall to hit five or more double hundreds in Tests. His 213 is the second highest score for Pakistan against Australia in Tests after Salim Malik’s 237 at Rawalpindi in 1994-95.
Azhar Ali (109), Younis Khan (213) and Misbah-ul-Haq (101) scored hundreds in Pakistan’s first innings. It was first time when Pakistan’s number three , four and five batsmen have made centuries in the same Test innings.
Younis Khan and Azhar Ali set a new record for the third wicket position for Pakistan against Australia in Tests by adding 236 runs. They erased the previous best of undefeated 223-run stand between Javed Miandad and Taslim Arif at Faisalabad in 1979-80.
Misbah-ul-Haq set the Pakistani record of most runs as captain in Tests. He surpassed Imran Khan’s tally of 2408 runs from 64 innings 48 Tests. Misbah-ul-Haq has now scored 2447 runs in 53 innings of 31 Test matches as Pakistani skipper.
The 181-run stand between Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan was the second best fourth wicket stand for Pakistan against Australia in Tests after Mohammed Yousuf and Younis Khan’s192-run stand at Melbourne in 2004-05. Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan’s stand was the 11th century stand in 34 innings.With this stand, the two batsmen set a new record of most century stands for Pakistan. Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammed Yousuf and Javed Miandad and Mudassar Nazar shared the previous record of 10 century stands each.
