CLT20 Final
Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders
CLT20 final will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. Match will start at 07:00 PM IST at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
The opening contest of the competition, played on 17 September 2014, featured these same two IPL sides. In which KKR won the match by three wickets.
Unlike in the IPL 2014, when the team rode mainly on the performances of skipper Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa and Sunil Narine, this time around the team has found new match-winners almost every time.
Chennai Super Kings’ group stage campaign comprised two wins, one defeat and one match in which they split points with their opponent. With ten points in the kitty, CSK’s fortunes hinged on the result of the final Group A match between the Perth Scorchers and the Lahore Lions. The Scorchers’ three-wicket victory over the Lions paved the way for CSK’s progress to the knockouts. In the crunch semi-final, CSK were pushed onto the backfoot early on, but fought back in spectacular fashion and annihilated their opponents Kings XI Punjab to barge into the final.
For almost every match that KKR have played over the last three years, one player’s name has been almost a given in this segment – that of Sunil Narine. The mystery spinner not only gave his team wickets, but also ensured he kept the lid on the opponent’s scoring, forcing them to take chances at the other end and thereby opening up wicket-taking opportunities for his teammates. The off-spinner will be conspicuous by his absence in final after he was served a suspension notice after KKR’s semi-final against Hobart Hurricanes for bowling with a suspect action.
Among the batsmen available for selection, Robin Uthappa, Gautam Gambhir and Manish Pandey will be central characters in KKR’s batting plans, while Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis and MS Dhoni will play important roles in CSK’s scheme of things.
Pat Cummins is likely to take up Sunil Narine’s place; his overs, together with the four overs bowled by Kuldeep Yadav, will have a huge impact on the game. Among the CSK bowlers, Ashish Nehra, who has picked up wickets in every outing, will want to add to his tally and claim the Golden Wicket award. R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are two important components in MS Dhoni’s arsenal, and how successful the two spinners are could have a telling impact on how CSK fares in this match.
